Get Assassin's Creed Shadows Free on Steam

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is one of the most ambitious entries in Ubisoft’s long-running franchise, dropping players into feudal Japan as two distinct protagonists with radically different playstyles. Released in March 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox, it carries a premium price tag on Steam and has held it firmly since launch. If you have been searching for a way to get Assassin’s Creed Shadows free, you have probably run into a mix of time-limited promotions, expired trial windows, and some offers that are simply not what they claim to be.

Getting Steam Games for Free

The honest picture is this: Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a paid game, and the legitimate free-play windows that do exist are narrow, controlled entirely by Ubisoft, and often tied to a Ubisoft+ Premium subscription trial rather than a permanent free release. When those windows close, the only way to keep playing is to purchase the game outright. Everything waiting beyond those official channels is far less reliable than it first appears. Offers that promise working codes for nothing, pages that ask for account credentials, and downloads from unofficial sources all carry real risks to your personal data, your device, and your Steam account. Ubisoft also issues content updates and patches at no extra cost to existing owners, but those are additions to a game you already paid for, not a route to ownership. The safe path is buying directly from Steam or using legitimate gift cards, including those available through Eneba, to fund the purchase at its current price.

How to Get Assassin’s Creed Shadows for Free?

The most reliable answer is to earn a Steam gift card through Snakzy and spend it on Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Steam. That approach has no expiry date, no subscription requirement, and no risk to your account. You end up with a permanent copy in your Steam library, just as if you had paid out of pocket.

Here is how the process works from start to finish:

Download the Snakzy app and create your account.
Browse the library and start playing mobile games that interest you.
Earn coins by hitting milestones and completing in-game tasks.
Redeem your accumulated coins for a Steam gift card.
Apply the gift card balance to your Steam account and purchase Assassin’s Creed Shadows at its current price.

Because the gift card balance lives in your Steam wallet, you can top it up over multiple redemptions if needed. There is no pressure to act before a free-trial deadline, and your coin balance keeps building at your own pace toward the redemption.

Can I play Assassin’s Creed for free?

Some earlier entries in the series have been offered free for limited periods through Ubisoft promotions, and Ubisoft+ Premium occasionally includes a trial that covers Shadows. Outside those windows, Assassin’s Creed Shadows requires a purchase on every platform. Earning a Steam gift card through Snakzy is the method that gives you permanent access without depending on a timed window.

Is there a free update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Yes. Ubisoft has released post-launch content updates and patches that are free to download for anyone who already owns the game. These add new features, fixes, and occasionally new content to existing copies. They do not, however, unlock the base game for players who have not purchased it, so the game itself still requires a buy-in first.
