Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is one of the best-selling Switch titles ever made, and for good reason. Originally released in 2017 by Nintendo, it builds on the Wii U version with a reworked battle mode, a full roster of characters, and the eventual addition of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass, which more than doubled its track count. It sells at a full price on the Nintendo eShop, and searching for a mario kart 8 deluxe free path turns up a lot of noise alongside the genuine options. This guide cuts through that noise and shows you what is real.
Getting Nintendo Games for Free
A few things genuinely reduce the cost of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and it is worth knowing exactly what they cover. The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier includes the Booster Course Pass at no extra charge while subscribed, meaning the DLC tracks are free while your subscription is active. The base game itself, however, is not included. Occasional Switch console bundles have included a digital copy of the game, but those are hardware promotions, not a way to grab the game on its own. Nintendo eShop sales do appear from time to time, and Nintendo Game Vouchers let subscribers buy two eligible titles for a set combined price, which can reduce what you pay per game.
What does not work: websites offering promo codes, code giveaways, or anything that promises a full Nintendo eShop download at no cost. These pages are not affiliated with Nintendo and do not hold real codes. Offers like these typically lead to surveys that harvest personal data, requests for payment details, or downloads from unofficial sources that carry real risks to your device and account. The same applies to anything described as an unofficial copy of the game. If the source is not the Nintendo eShop or a legitimate gift card from a trusted retailer, the risk is not worth it.

The only realistic no-cost path to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is earning a Nintendo eShop gift card through a legitimate rewards app and spending it at the official store. Snakzy makes this possible: you play mobile games, earn coins for completing milestones and tasks, and redeem those coins for a Nintendo eShop card that covers the purchase price.
Here is how the process works from start to finish:
- Download the Snakzy app and create your account.
- Browse the available mobile games and pick ones that interest you.
- Play and hit milestones or complete in-app tasks to earn coins.
- Redeem your coins for a Nintendo eShop gift card.
- Add the card balance to your Nintendo account on the eShop.
- Purchase Mario Kart 8 Deluxe from the official Nintendo eShop.
This path gives you a legitimate digital copy of the game tied to your Nintendo account, with full access to updates, online play, and any DLC you choose to add. There are no workarounds, no risk to your console, and no chance of ending up with an expired or invalid code.
Is MK8 Deluxe still active?
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remains fully active today, with a large online player base and Nintendo continuing to support its online infrastructure. The Booster Course Pass added 48 additional courses, keeping the competitive and casual scene lively. It is one of the most-played Switch titles in online matchmaking, so you will find races at any hour.
Can I get Mario Kart 8 for free through Nintendo Switch Online?
Nintendo Switch Online does not include Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in its game library. The Expansion Pack tier does unlock the Booster Course Pass DLC at no extra charge, which is a genuine benefit if you already own the base game. Getting the base game itself still requires a separate purchase from the Nintendo eShop or a bundled hardware deal.
